Watery Eyes or Tearing
There are a number or tear duct issues that can occur in both adults and children, causing varying degrees of watery eyes symptoms, listed below are the most common. Click through to read more about each of these issues.
Endoscopic DCR
Endoscopic surgery is the most modern and comprehensive way to correct tear drainage duct issues. Surgery is performed through the nostril with no skin incision. It is only performed by a handful of surgeons throughout the state.
Tearing in Children
There are many causes of tearing in children but the most common cause is related to a congenital (something you are born with) obstruction (blockage) of the lower portion of the tear duct (nasolacrimal duct).
External DCR (dacryocystorhinostomy) Surgery
If there is a narrowing or blockage of the tear outflow tract then DCR surgery can be performed to create a functioning tear drainage system. This surgery is called a Dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR. An incision is made in the skin on the side wall of the nose to gain access to the tear sac and the nasal cavity.
Revision Tear Duct Surgery
The tear drainage apparatus is a complex and delicately balanced system. Traditionally tear duct surgery has been performed through a skin incision on the sidewall of the nose.
